Saturday concert will raise funds to reopen library | News, Sports, Jobs

ELKINS — A benefit concert is set for Saturday to raise funds for the renovation and reopening of the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library.

The event will be hosted at the historic Darden Mill, located at 2 Railroad Avenue in Elkins. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the concert starting at 6 p.m.

All funds raised will be donated to the library. Donations can also be made at

Scheduled performers for the concert include local musicians Jesse Milnes, Doug Van Gundy, Val Mindel and Mike Miller, Gerry Milnes, Chris Lovejoy and Josh Wanstreet.

A raffle will be held throughout the event, officials said..

“The Friends of the Elkins Randolph County Public Library are so pleased to be the recipient of the proceeds from the Darden Fest Concert,” said Julia Cassells, a volunteer with Friends of the Elkins Randolph County Public Library.

“Josh (Wanstreet) has put together a wonderful group of musicians to play in a relaxed friendly venue at the Darden Mill,” Cassells said. “The Friends of the Library will use all of the money collected from the concert for the new Elkins Library construction.”

The event is being sponsored by the Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area and managed by AFNHA AmeriCorps member Josh Wanstreet as a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service project.

The Elkins-Randolph County Public Library sustained severe water damage at the end of December 2021, requiring the library to relocate to a temporary location until renovations are completed at the original location.

Tickets are available in advance at the Elkins-Randolph County Public Library by cash, or by sending an email to with the ticket holder’s name, email and phone for credit card sales. Admission will also include light refreshments.
